Clinton is 3-0 so far this year and they haven't had a 3-0 start since 1988 and I was trying to figure out who was the coach then.  Also who have been the football coaches since then.  I suppose I could figure it out if I dug out my yearbook, but I was hoping that someone would save me from having to do that.  Thanks!!!

Was it Coach Kreider or did he come along later?

I believe the former coaches would be:

Dale Giesler (mid to late 80's)
Phil Ambrose (late 80's to mid 90's)
Jim Cox (mid 90's to 2000 ish)
Eric Royer (2000 ish to 2002?)
Scott Mahmens (2002-2004)
Lee Camp (2005 to present)

I may have the years wrong but I think that it is the order.

I wasn't sure how long Dale Geisler was coach.  I know that he was the coach for some of my high school years (I graduated in 89) but not sure how many of them were when Geisler was there.  Thanks for your help!!!

My husband says Phil Ambrose was the coach in 88. 88 was a bit before my high school days, so I'll take his word for it!

Wow...

"Clinton is two road wins from securing its first MAC title since 1991. Interestingly, it was VanWetzinga's uncle, Phil Ambrose, who coached that Kings team."

What a thrill it is to watch our boys stay focused and do so well on and off the field.  And, the fans have been great, too.  When so much of the news is focused on the negative, it's great to see our kids being a part of something so positive.  The high school student body really showed class when they elected their homecoming king last week.  If you were able to attend the coronation, pep assembly or homecoming game, you saw how happy they were for him.  Way to go Clinton High students!!

GO RIVER KINGS!!!!  What a game last night.  It may have been raining, but for the Clinton fans it was a gorgeous night!  What a great group of guys.

Not sure how true this is, but just heard through the grapevine that Kurt Warner might be at the game tonight as C.H.S. is playing his old school. Sort of makes sense since he's in Chicago playing against the Bears Sun. Kurt Warner graduated in 1990 from Regis High School (now known as Xavier) in Cedar Rapids. He played quarterback for the team's Class 3A squad.

A bit of clarification, Regis High School is now Regis Middle School, and Xavier is elsewhere a merger of LaSalle and Regis High Schools.

It was a good run for Clinton, hopefully they can do it again next year.

What's with the lack of support? Most little towns in Iowa the signs would have started two miles outside of town and ran to the stadium. In Clinton you get 1 side of the Culver's sign, a flashy bank sign, and the folks at McEleny car dealership that actually did something.  Do they not have cheerleaders or students that care enough to do something? It's not like they make sub-state and beyond very often.

What about Cassidy's "cup sign" in their fence off Manufacturing Drive?  I also saw a homemade sign driving up Thorwaldsen and tons of billboard throughout town.  There was also a carved pumpkin.  The stadium and high school were also well decorated at Friday's game.  Plus the 3000 - 4000 people at the most recent two games.  How can you say this town didn't support the team?  I think the team and the coach would disagree with you.  As a matter of fact, Coach Camp has been quoted a few times saying he and the team look as the fans as their "12th man."  We were at all but a couple of the early road games and, believe me, the town supported the team.

Does anyone know if Kurt Warner was at Friday's game?  My guess would be that if he was there he did his best to remain well under the radar.

Congratulations, River Kings!  What an awesome season!
